17.0" Yoke Mount - Ultra High Bright Series
The
newly released Ultra High Bright Monitors are an ideal solution
for indoor applications where high ambient light is a factor or
throughout outdoor environments where direct or indirect sunlight
can cause a less than optimum viewing experience. Dimming features
allow images to remain crisp and clear as lighting conditions change.
A versatile "yoke" mounting kit is provided for vehicle
or shipboard mounting.
The
powerful model VT170YHBU has a screen luminance level of 1200 cd/m2
nits as well as high contrast ratios and wide viewing angles.
For
maximum versatility, the series is equipped with a multitude of
video inputs, including HD15, DVI, NTSC/PAL and S-video.
Add-on
options include:
- Optical
bonding for DIRECT sunlight conditions and added structural support
- Resistive
or Capacitive Touch Screen
- Integrated
"heaters" for low operational temperatures down to -20C
- Manual
Dimming or Automatic Dimming Sensor

VT150WKS
Workstation With Integrated Computer
Many
of today's real world environments require workstations that can
survive in the most extreme conditions such as coal mines, rock
quarries, oil rigs, chemical manufacturing plants, bakeries, and
production floors of major food processing and packaging plants
which require wash-down equipment. VarTech systems has met that
challenge with the release of its enhanced product line of Industrial
NEMA 4X (IP66) Workstations, equipped with an Industrial LCD Flat
Panel, completely sealed keyboards and pointing devices as well
as high performance pentium based computer systems. Optional video
extenders (CAT5 or fiber optic) are available.
This new series meets the needs of many harsh environmental applications
requiring NEMA 4x watertight and corrosive protection. Manufactured
of 304 stainless steel (optional 316 available), these rugged workstations
are equipped with features such as a Very Bright 450 nits Active
Matrix TFT Display, multiple video input capabilities including
HD15, RCA (NTSC/PAL), 5 Pin Mini Din (S-Video), and DVI, as well
as extensive resolution capabilities. Optional touch screens can
be integrated.
A multitude of mounting configurations are available: VESA Wall
Mounting, Bulkhead, Pole or Pedestal Mount.

Viewing
Angles
Due to the emissive characteristics of phosphors located on the
front face of the tube, off-angle viewing has never been an issue
with CRT monitors as they naturally provide comfortable 180°
views in every visible direction. This is not the case with LCD
monitors, however, due to their inherent makeup. As light must pass
through a series of materials prior to being emitted from the front
face of the LCD, viewing angles can be narrowed, resulting in color
shifts at the extremes and particularly in the vertical direction
(up and down). LCD monitors have made vast improvements over the
years in regards to their off-angle usability. As a point of reference,
LCD viewing angle measurements are usually provided in a specification
in both the horizontal (left and right) and vertical (up and down)
direction.
There
are two main ways that manufacturers can increase the viewing angles
of their LCD products. One method involves the very design of the
internal components of the monitor and requires the microscopic
liquid crystals to be twisted in different ways (Fig. 1) so that
light is emitted in different directions and in the widest angles
possible. This method for improving viewing angles can be achieved
by many types of technologies such as those generically referred
to as inplane switching (IPS) or multi-vertical alignment (MVA),
or by manufacturer-specific implementations such as NEC's XtraView®
technology. These types of technologies generally deliver superior
viewing angles in excess of 170° in both the horizontal and
vertical planes.
Figure
1. In conventional LCD technology (top), liquid crystals
stand on end, resulting in a loss of viewing angle. With wide-angle
viewing technology (bottom), the crystals remain horizontal, which
dramatically improves the viewing angle because the light passes
through the crystals at their most efficient orientation.
