Certified Purge Systems for Hazardous Area Operations

Our ToughStation purge-protected monitors are designed to be non-incendiary in C1D1, C2D1 and C2D2 environments through their Type-X and Type-Z certified purge systems.

Type-X Purge Systems for C1D1 and C2D1 Areas

Type-X purge systems are a requirement to safely operate HMIs in C1D1 environments. In C1D1 areas, ignitable concentrations of flammable gases, liquids, or vapors are present under normal operating conditions.

C2D1 areas, where combustible dust is present, also need Type-X purges for electrical equipment.

Type-Z Purge Systems for C2D2 Areas

Type-Z purge systems are designed for C2D2 environments. In C2D2 environments, ignitable concentrations of flammable gases, liquids, or vapors are not present under normal operating conditions, but may be present under abnormal operating conditions.

Durable, Large Format Displays

Our purge-protected ToughStation monitors’ 32” and 43” display sizes are ideal for showing detailed information to operators, such as dashboards monitoring facility processes.

PCAP Touchscreens

Purge-protected ToughStation monitors are available with PCAP (projected capacitive) touchscreens which support multi-touch gestures such as pinch-to-zoom or twist-to-rotate and are often used in applications where operators wear protective gloves.

Optical Bonding

Our North Carolina manufacturing facility hosts a state-of-the-art Class 10000 cleanroom in which our optical bonding process takes place. A bonded display protects the monitor against potential damage from sources including environmental vibrations or accidental impact.

The optical bonding process also reduces display glare in bright environments and prevents the LCD from overheating in extreme environments.

Fully Sealed Enclosures: NEMA and IP Protection

ToughStation purge-protected monitors have a fully sealed stainless-steel design that is built to meet NEMA 4X and IP66 protection standards.

Our units are resistant to the ingress of corrosion, dust, and water, including in washdown areas.

High-Bright Displays

Our purge-protected monitors host up to 1800 nits of brightness, providing clear viewability in bright outdoor and indoor environments. Optional dimmers allow easy adjustments to the display brightness for outdoor use in facilities that operate day and night.

Oil, Gas, and Energy

Often used in energy production and transfer facilities, ToughStation monitors’ combination of extreme temperature resistance, high-bright displays, and certified purge systems support safe HMI operations in C1D1 and C2D2 areas.

SCADA Systems

The large format displays of ToughStation purge-protected monitors, measuring 32” and 43”, respectively, enable the simultaneous viewing and operating of numerous processes within facilities’ complex SCADA systems.
